Terms for a 60,000 sq ft food store have been agreed with a national retailer. To ensure town centre shopping still remains vibrant a FREE Town Centre Shuttle Bus will link the site with the town and a dedicated All the Little Shops website will promote and sell goods and services for local independent retailers and businesses.
The food store will bring healthy competition and improved choice. This will be further enhanced by additional supporting retail which will focus on bulky goods and stem the significant retail expenditure leakage to Wrexham and Shrewsbury whose centres already have the appropriate large warehousing for such goods. So that shoppers can take full advantage of the free Shuttle Bus service and shop in the town centre as well as at the Smithfield development, there will be 5 hours FREE parking at the Smithfield site and during peak commuter times the Town Centre Shuttle Bus will also act as a Park & Ride service.
As an additional way of driving footfall into the town centre and helping to prevent retail expenditure going to neighbouring towns - something which has been identified as a major source of financial loss to the town’s economy, local retailers and businesses will be able to promote and sell their goods and services through the dedicated All the Little Shops website. The potential to increase business sales locally, nationally and even internationally in some instances, is massive. Customers buying on line will, for the first time, be able to make multiple purchases from any number of shops with one single payment through a secure gateway. A ‘Wrap and Collect’ service will save on postage and provide the ideal opportunity to visit the town and gain a wider insight into what is available there.
